The subBOX Project - The Radcot Bridge - Welcome Guest
Box telematics have been commissioned to provide local structural engineers with subBOX, a subsidence monitoring device, to monitor Radcot Bridge which is deteriorating due to modern heavy traffic road levels. Heavy cracks have also been evident within the structure, causing means for concerns that the bridge is unstable.
Forming part of a sequence of three bridges, Radcot Bridge was built around 1200 on the order of King John by the Cistercian monks of St Mary, Citeaux in Normandy, making it the oldest bridge to cross the River Thames. The bridge served as a necessity and means of communications for the transportation of live cattle and the Cotswolds wool trade. The bridge was designed for light usage.
However after an eventful history (Battle of Radcot Bridge and the War of the Roses) which has caused the most severe damage, the historians want the bridge to be preserved as a local monument.
How the subBOX team will monitor this project
The subBOX will be placed on several locations on the Bridge where suspected subsidence cracks have been identified.
Utilising the sophisticated subBOX web enabled technology a report documenting the progress of the crack will be communicated back to Box Telematics HQ. The subBOX team will report the results and explain the predictions behind the reading.
Visit back soon for more updates of the subBOX project.
